A small fishing port steeped in history…<\/p>

Located in the heart of the D-Day landing beaches, between Arromanches and Pointe du Hoc, Port-en-Bessin is Normandy’s largest fishing port.<\/p>

Here, everyone lives to the rhythm of the tides and the comings and goings of the fishing boats: Norman lobsters, scallops, sea bass and many other fish are offered on the stalls of the fish market, where a particular effervescence reigns.<\/p>

After strolling along the quayside, take the path up to the wild cliff where the Vauban Tower stands. Built in 1694 to keep an eye on privateers and prevent possible English invasions.<\/p>

In 1944, Port-en-Bessin, located between two landing zones, Omaha Beach and Gold Beach, became the hub of the pipeline system supplying the Allies with fuel.<\/p>

Don’t miss: the Mus\u00e9e des \u00e9paves sous-marines du D\u00e9barquement, where tanks, aircraft remains, documents, films and personal items recovered from the seabed are on display.<\/p>

Don’t miss the night market and the fireworks display every Friday evening during the summer.<\/p>
